Key Responsibilities

As a High Level Train Technician at Alstom, you will be responsible for carrying out in-depth fault finding on Class 345 Electric Multiple Units. You will take overall responsibility for the reliability of the fleet as a member of the high-level technician team.

You will undertake all types of fault finding, both mechanical and electrical, with a bias on electrical. Additionally, you will complete software loads, data recorder analysis, and customer-related meetings in relation to reliability.

Your primary goal will be to ensure that all work is carried out to a high professional standard, providing a safe, reliable, and defect-free train. The high-level technician role is the highest level on the depot in terms of experience and knowledge.

Key Skills and Qualifications
  • Provide train systems engineering advice for the vehicle as a whole and for key vehicle systems.
  • Be a point of contact for Production and control room staff for in-service fault resolution.
  • Optimise maintenance on trains as per defined balanced examination schedules.
  • Help customers with detailed fault finding and diagnostics.
  • Produce solutions that provide short-term mitigation and long-term resolution.
  • Monitor warranty issues and liaise with supplier technical teams.
  • Attend to faulty trains in service, component replacements, and modification work.
  • Help customers with root cause analysis using Alstom FRACAS, 8D, PPS methodologies.
  • Ensure correct replacement parts are sourced.
  • Assist operators in updating maintenance instructions, overhaul instructions, processes, and procedures to optimise maintenance.
  • Monitor train reliability and availability performance and issue monthly performance reports.
  • Monitor trains in service using remote monitoring systems.
  • Download train data from onboard train data recorders using laptops.
  • Run diagnostics software to identify faults with various train systems.
  • System software updates as required.
  • Obsolescence avoidance and mitigation.
  • Engineering support for all safety-related incidents.
  • Share experience gained from other fleets across the world.
  • Contribute to Health and Safety daily.
  • Strong report writing skills.
About You
  • Completion of a recognised apprenticeship.
  • Minimum qualification required – NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline.
  • Experience within Rail.
  • Use of laptops and diagnostic tools to determine faults.
  • Ability to work from maintenance manuals and schematics.
  • Experience of mechanical or electrical fault finding.
  • Experience of mechanical or electrical repairs.
  • Troubleshooting and evidence gathering.
