About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Interpreter Training and Development to join our team at SignVideo by Sorenson. As a key member of our organization, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our interpreting services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and provide a selection of monthly CPD workshops for the professional development of interpreters and translators.
  • Create and provide remote workshops as a recruiting tool for non-employees.
  • Develop content for e-learning modules, resource documents, video resources, and live training sessions.
  • Support other team members in the development of training materials.
  • Contribute to the strategy for the expansion of current face-to-face and video interpreting and translation services.
  • Ensure adequate training and induction is given to all new employees in line with company protocols.
  • Support with recruitment activities through the creation and provision of pipeline training programs for trainee interpreters/translators.
  • Support with recruitment activities through the provision of standardized assessment tools, creating, assessing, and facilitating the process.
  • Ensure standards are maintained through initial and ongoing assessments of interpreting and customer service skills for employees.
  • Support the Director of Interpreting in the running of the interpreting team, and development of the service.
  • Interpret/translate to the best of your ability, in situations as required by the company.
  • Be part of the 24/7 Shift Lead provision as required.
  • Provide oversight of the supervisory team.
  • Oversee the administration of the interpreting team, working with the Head of Workforce Management.
  • Support with updating and creation of policies and guidelines for the interpreting team, including but not limited to managing the team information within the Microsoft suite of applications.
  • Demonstrate full compliance with SignVideo/Sorenson standards and policies and your registration bodies' Code of Conduct.
  • Manage employee relations and maintain positive employee morale.
  • Support the safe delivery of services by employees in remote locations.
  • Communicate and liaise with other departments within the company as needed to support other teams, and coordinate their support of the interpreting team.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has potential to manage people and be responsible for their performance management.

Travel Requirements

As needed to meet business needs. Less than 25%.

Education and Experience

Qualified BSL/English Interpreter/Translator with 5+ years interpreting/translation experience required. 5+ years interpreter/translator training experience required. 5+ years management experience preferred. 2+ years video interpreting experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Sign language interpreting/translation qualifications required.
  • Ability to assess the skill sets of potential interpreting/translation employees.
  • Provide diagnostic feedback to each Interpreting/translator employee regarding skill sets.
  • Vast experience of training development and delivery.
  • Knowledge of adult education theories, and ability to adapt materials for delivery.
  • Experience in e-learning development, or willingness and ability to learn.
  • Track, work on, and complete various project simultaneously.
  • Consistently meet deadlines and produce high-quality work.
  • Possess Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to hold effective coaching sessions.
  • Near native command of British Sign Language and English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to write reports in Excel and Word.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly regulated work environment.
  • Collaborative, supportive, and positive attitude.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Computer and video equipment used in all areas of the job.
  • Solid understanding of the Code of Professional Ethics.
