About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Histopathologist to join our team at Poundbury Cancer Institute. As a Histopathologist, you will be responsible for providing a comprehensive histopathology reporting service, including cut-up, reporting, MDT attendance, R&D activities, and teaching.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the diagnostic histopathology service
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings
- Act as lead Histopathologist for at least one specialist area
- Take part in clinical audit, research studies, clinical governance, and teaching
- Carry out teaching, examination, and QA duties
Clinical Care
The post holder should be trained in all aspects of general histopathology and non-gynaecological cytology and have or develop a special interest that complements that of the existing consultants.
Management and Leadership Responsibilities
All consultants in Cellular Pathology are accountable through the Clinical Director to the PCI Board. Consultants are key members of the PCI Management team and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience.
Professional Responsibilities
There is a requirement to participate in continuing medical education using the Royal College of Pathologists scheme and consultants participate in specialised EQA schemes relating to their areas of interest.

- Capacity to handle cases of general pathology in a timely manner
- Demonstrable ability to manage priorities
- Flexible approach to work organisation
- Intermediate to Advanced level IT skills

- Demonstrable multi-disciplinary team leadership skills
- Experience of management

- Ability to lead project teams
Experience
Essential
- Clinical Training experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT
- Expertise in wide range of general histopathological and non-Gynaecological cytology material
- Ability to participate in multi-professional team and take full and independent responsibility for caseload
Desirable
- Evidence of a specialist interest that complements those of other Consultants in the department
- Ability to lead in multi-professional team and take full and independent responsibility for caseload
Teaching and Research
Essential
- Ability to teach clinical skills to trainees and multi-disciplinary teams
- Interest in leading multi-professional education Publications in peer reviewed journals

- Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Qualifications
Essential
- Full general registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
Desirable
- A relevant higher qualification would be desirable
- Full specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
- FRCPath (UK) by examination or evidence of equivalent qualification
