Strategic Director of Research Services

As a key member of the University of Glasgow's senior leadership team, the successful candidate will play a critical role in shaping the University's research strategy and policies. This will involve working closely with the Vice Principal for Research & Knowledge Exchange to develop and implement a comprehensive research agenda that aligns with the University's overall objectives.
Main Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Research Strategy and Operations will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to the Research Services Directorate. This will include:
- Developing and implementing a research strategy that aligns with the University's overall objectives
- Providing management and oversight of the Research Services Directorate
- Fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the Directorate
- Leading the development and implementation of new policies and processes
- Engaging with the sector and maintaining current understanding of issues affecting research nationally and internationally
- Effectively managing the Research Services budget
The successful candidate will possess:
- Executive-level knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector
- Strategic leadership skills, including ability to define and develop strategy
- Outstanding communication and engagement skills
- Ability to empower, coach and influence others
- Understanding of university governance and ability to work effectively within a collegial decision-making culture
- Creativity, flexibility and innovative approaches to problem-solving
The successful candidate will have:
- Significant senior leadership experience within the higher education sector
- Demonstrable track record of successfully meeting ambitious organisational objectives
- Experience of sector-level engagement at national and international levels
- Ability to foster and maintain strategic relationships with a wide range of key internal and external stakeholders
