About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Planning and Highways Lawyer to join our team in the Northern Home Counties region. The successful candidate will lead and manage a team of lawyers providing exceptional legal service to public sector clients, primarily in planning and highways law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive specialist legal advice to clients while managing a complex caseload in relation to planning and highways matters.
  • Contribute to the development, training or mentoring of colleagues within the team.
  • Attend committees, meetings and external bodies to advise on legal issues, governance and procedure.
  • Deputise for the Head of Property, Planning and Highways when required.
  • Supervise and manage the work of the team to ensure professional guidance is given.
  • Actively seek out new business development opportunities and raise the profile of the shared legal service.
  • Represent clients in negotiations and discussions with third parties in planning and highways matters.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will be a 5+ PQE admitted Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX of England and Wales with a current practising certificate. Good knowledge of planning and highways law and practices are essential. Previous managerial and advocacy experience is also necessary.

You must have a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others, anticipate challenges and deal with them proactively. Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, are crucial. You should be enthusiastic, driven by delivering high-quality service and have a positive attitude towards building relationships with team members. The ability to evaluate information in complex situations and confidently make decisions independently is vital.

What We Offer:

A salary of £61,075 per annum (estimated based on the job description and location), plus a management allowance of £1,400 and an excellent benefits package. This is a full-time position with flexible working arrangements.
