Job Title: MRC Investigator Scientist in Bioinformatics

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced investigator scientist to join our team at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) in the Computational Cardiac Imaging Group. The successful candidate will work on a new collaboration with Calico Labs to investigate the mechanisms of human aging and its impact on cardiovascular disease.

About the Role:

The LMS is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. As an investigator scientist, you will be part of a dynamic team that uses machine learning, statistics, and bioinformatics to analyze cardiac motion and predict patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop models for biological age prediction from multiple image-derived phenotypes
  • Use gradient boosting algorithms and structural equation modeling to analyze cardiac motion and predict patient outcomes
  • Collaborate with the Computational Cardiac Imaging Group to develop new techniques and tools for biomedical imaging and genomics
  • Work with a wide range of statistical tools and programming languages, including Python and R
Requirements:
  • Substantial research experience in machine learning, statistics, and bioinformatics
  • Expert knowledge of gradient boosting algorithms and structural equation modeling
  • Proven programming experience in Python and R
  • Previous work on biomedical datasets and genomics
