Research Scientist in Computational Cardiac Imaging and Bioinformatics

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team at the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) in the Computational Cardiac Imaging Group. The successful candidate will work on a 3-year program using cardiovascular MRI to assess modifiable mechanisms of aging.

The LMS is a world-class research laboratory where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Funded by the MRC as part of UK Research and Innovation, the LMS has a collaborative working culture and new state-of-the-art building based in the heart of West London.

The Computational Cardiac Imaging Group works at the intersection of clinical imaging, bioinformatics, computer vision, and molecular cardiology to explore the mechanisms underlying heart function. The group uses machine learning to analyse cardiac motion for predicting patient outcomes, discovering potential therapeutic targets, and identifying genetic risk factors.

The ideal candidate will have substantial research experience in machine learning, statistics, and bioinformatics, with a proven track record of developing models for biological age prediction from multiple image-derived phenotypes. Expert knowledge of a wide range of statistical tools, including gradient boosting algorithms and causal inference techniques, is required.

The candidate should have proven programming experience in Python and R, with previous work on biomedical datasets and genomics being an advantage. We are also looking for an ability to innovate and adapt techniques from other domains.
