Job Overview

The Publishing & Images team is responsible for the photography of works of art within the Collection, including photographs on paper, manuscripts and books, and decorative works of art. As a photographer in this dedicated team, you will be working with high-quality images on time and to brief.

Salary and Benefits

This role offers a competitive salary of £34,000 per year. In addition to a generous salary, you can also enjoy 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days (plus bank holidays) dependent on length of service. Our excellent non-contributory pension plan (we contribute 5%) and complimentary lunch on-site are highly valued by our employees.

About the Role

You will photograph works on paper, manuscripts, and books, and all other decorative works of art, ensuring the delivery of high-quality images on time and to brief. You will process digital files, undertake detailed colour management, and work with the Digital Imager to ensure files are ready to be uploaded to the Royal Collection's Digital Asset Management (DAM) system. You will maintain an up-to-date pool of images, undertaking specific photography requests as and when required, using your expertise in RAW image processing software to bring the images to life.

With photographic sessions undertaken in both Royal Residences and external locations, you will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to plan and discuss the brief for each photography session. Attending shoots will involve moving photographic equipment between different sites as required.

Requirements
  • A degree or equivalent qualification in photography, experience in Fine Art photography within a museum or gallery, and the use of digital backs and professional RAW processing software.
  • Experience with colour management, knowledge of Photoshop, and the use of studio equipment.
  • A keen eye for detail, creativity, and confidence drawing on your expertise to put forward suggestions to suit varied briefs.
  • An excellent communicator with a proactive approach, enjoying collaboration with team members and colleagues who are specialists in their own field.
  • Organised and methodical, able to manage workload against shifting priorities and meet tight deadlines, confident with numbers and filing systems.
