About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our team at the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub. The successful candidate will work on an exciting project with Polestar, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, to improve the sustainability of automotive plastics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop new carbon-negative polymers and improve recyclability of automotive plastics
  • Critically evaluate sustainability, safety, and scalability of project outcomes
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to co-create robust solutions

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in polymer chemistry, engineering, processing, circular economy, or related field
  • Understanding of sustainability principles, ideally in circular economy, recycling, or carbon-negative materials
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

About the Hub

The Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub is a research platform at the University of Manchester, working at the interface between the Sustainable Futures research platform and the Henry Royce Institute. Our team supports innovation in sustainable plastics and multi-materials, with a focus on translation into industry and policy.
