Urban Design Consultant Role

Essex County Council is seeking a skilled Urban Design Consultant to join our Place Services team. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary consultancy, you will provide effective delivery of complex urban design services to our clients across Essex and England.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise on urban design matters, including development management and policy advice;
  • Prepare design briefs for sites of limited scope and complexity;
  • Carry out design reviews on schemes of small to medium scale and complexity;
  • Develop and evaluate Masterplans, design guides and codes for medium scale and complex schemes;
  • Collect, analyse, and present data, evidence and advice to recognised standards;
  • Contribute to the development and review of plans, policies and guidance;
  • Engage with networks to enhance the recognition and reputation of Place Services;
  • Maintain a professional, client-focused culture and positive client relationships;
  • Develop own commercial awareness of our business and key markets;
  • Contribute to bids for low-value opportunities and manage low-value projects and contracts against budgets, specifications and indicators.
Requirements:
  • Educated to RQF level 6 (Bachelor's degree) in a relevant subject;
  • Good evidence of continuing professional development with Membership of, or working towards Membership of, relevant professional body;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Good awareness of wellbeing and H&S, able to produce and implement standard risk assessments;
  • Ability to use a range of common and specialist software, including GIS/AutoCAD/Creative Cloud/Sketchup.
