Power Electronics Design Engineer - Aerospace & Defence

We are seeking a highly skilled Power Electronics Design Engineer to join our team in the UK. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing and developing cutting-edge power conversion solutions for demanding aerospace, automotive, and defence applications.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop a range of DC-DC (1000VDC) and AC-DC converters in kW ranges for Aerospace, Automotive and Defence applications.
  • Collaborate closely with customers to understand their technical requirements and specifications.
  • Utilize simulation tools such as Matlab and PSpice to analyze and optimize power electronics systems.
  • Generate schematic capture, PCB layouts, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) for the designed converters.
  • Perform Design Verification Testing (DVT) and validation to ensure product performance and reliability.
  • Create comprehensive documentation for engineering to production handover, including proposals, project costings, Statements of Work (SOWs), and technical specifications.
  • Provide ongoing support for released designs and participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Design products that meet stringent regulatory standards, including EMC, environmental, shock, vibration, surges, and safety requirements.
  • Work effectively within cross-functional teams comprising software engineers, hardware engineers, CAD specialists, mechanical designers, and PCB layout experts.
Your Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with voltages up to 1000VDC and AC mains.
  • Strong understanding of safety standards for power converters.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and simulating power electronics systems using tools such as Matlab and PSpice.
  • Experience in schematic capture, PCB layout design, and BOM generation.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
