About the Service

Priory Healthcare is a leading provider of mental health services, and our Fern Unit is a comprehensive rehabilitation service for young people and adults. Our focus is on providing a safe and supportive environment for individuals to live their best life.

The unit is a locked rehabilitation unit that runs a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) treatment programme. Patients admitted to the ward for treatment may have a range of diagnoses, including emotionally unstable personality disorder, complex PTSD, and eating disorders, as well as co-morbid mental disorders such as psychosis and substance misuse.

The multidisciplinary team on Fern comprises a nursing team, including the unit manager, deputy managers, registered mental health nurses, therapeutic care assistants, a consultant psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, assistant psychologist, dietician, a speciality grade doctor, an Occupational Therapist, and a technical instructor. We also have access to Social Work and GP expertise on site.

Job Description

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  1. Providing and supporting nursing care to the ward and acting as a named nurse for a defined group of patients.
  2. Assessing, planning, and delivering nursing care that takes account of patient needs, choices, and wishes.
  3. Promoting and adhering to the DBT model.
  4. Understanding and participating in relevant quality improvement processes and clinical governance.
  5. Providing accurate information about care to Service Users and their families.
  6. Maintaining good clinical records and team communication.

Requirements

  1. Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  2. Knowledge of NMC standards, guidelines, requests, and professional practices.
  3. Demonstrating a positive attitude and commitment to service improvement and quality.
  4. Ability to develop and use flexible and innovative approaches to practice.
