Veterinary Assistant

At Auburn University, we are seeking a skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our esteemed Equine Internal Medicine Service. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to be at the forefront of equine medicine, working in a state-of-the-art facility.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality care to horses with complex medical conditions. Working closely with board-certified specialists and veterinary students, you will ensure that each patient receives the best possible treatment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with examination, treatment, and monitoring of equine patients, including safe handling and restraint of horses.
- Perform and assist with diagnostic procedures such as sample collection, ultrasound, endoscopy, and radiography.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, vaccinations, and other treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
- Continuously monitor patients' vital signs, responses to treatment, and overall progress, providing updates to veterinarians and adjusting care as needed.
- Communicate effectively with horse owners regarding their horses' conditions, treatment plans, and care instructions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, including patient histories, treatment plans, and billing charges.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of experience working with equine patients in a professional veterinary setting.
A valid driver's license is required, and the ability to drive a truck and/or tractor is highly desirable.
We offer a competitive salary range of $31,200 - $43,500 and a comprehensive benefits package, including excellent full-time benefits, medical, dental, and vision insurance options, and generous relocation allowance.
