At Thomson Reuters, we're seeking a talented Applied Scientist to join our team in London. As an Applied Scientist, you'll be working at the forefront of applied research in an industry setting, leveraging state-of-the-art information retrieval, natural language processing, and generative AI to solve real-world problems.

Key responsibilities include experimenting, developing, and delivering innovative solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and driving impactful results. You'll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, from prototype development to large-scale implementation.

Requirements include a PhD in a relevant discipline or Master's with equivalent experience, at least one year of industry experience building IR/NLP/ML systems, and solid software engineering skills for prototyping. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years of practical experience building IR, ML, or NLP systems, experience designing and implementing solutions with large language models, and relevant publications at top-tier conferences.

About the Role

  • Experiment and Develop: Execute the entire model development lifecycle, from prototype to delivery, while applying best practices for reproducible research and well-managed software delivery.

About You

  • Basic qualifications:
    • PhD in a relevant discipline or Master's plus a comparable level of experience.
    • At least one year industry experience building IR/NLP/ML systems.
    • Solid software engineering skills for prototyping.
    • Outstanding communication and data analysis skills.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • 5+ years practical experience building IR, ML, or NLP systems in academia or industry.
    • Experience designing and implementing solutions with large language models.
    • Relevant publications at ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, SIGIR, KDD, or similar.
    • Advanced proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala.
    • Experience writing production quality code and contributing to well-managed software delivery.
