About the Role

We are seeking a talented Data Designer to join our multi-platform, multi-disciplinary team within BBC News. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and visualizing data-driven stories across various platforms, including our website, app, and social media channels.

Your primary focus will be on creating engaging and informative data visualizations, interactive applications, and maps that meet the highest creative and editorial standards. You will work closely with our team to develop and deliver content that showcases the power of data storytelling.

Main Responsibilities
  • Design and develop high-quality data visualizations, interactive applications, and maps that effectively communicate complex data insights.
  • Collaborate with our team to develop and maintain our design framework, ensuring consistency and excellence across all platforms.
  • Work closely with journalists and editors to understand their needs and develop data-driven stories that meet their requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in data visualization and storytelling, applying this knowledge to enhance our content.
  • Ensure that all designs are accessible, user-friendly, and meet the BBC's high standards for quality and accuracy.
  • Contribute to the development of our team's skills and knowledge, sharing best practices and expertise with colleagues.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in data visualization, design, and storytelling, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
  • Excellent design skills, with a focus on data-driven storytelling and visual communication.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization tools and technologies, including Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, managing competing demands and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Passion for data-driven storytelling and a commitment to delivering high-quality content that meets the BBC's standards.
