Job Description

We are seeking to fund travel and subsistence costs in support of competitively awarded science observation time at astronomy facilities available to the UK research community.

About the Opportunity

This funding opportunity is designed to support observers from eligible UK institutions, travelling for competitively awarded science observation time. The successful applicant will be entitled to 100% of the full economic cost.

Eligibility Criteria
  • You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for STFC funding.
  • You can apply for:
    • travel grants: funding for groups with travel costs of more than £7,500 a year
    • travel claims: for applicants who neither hold nor have access to a travel grant awarded by the panel
Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Utilising funds to support UK-based observers only.
  • Ensuring that nominated representatives are experienced and qualified to use or operate the facility on which an allocation of time has been awarded.
  • Not authorising the use of travel funds to support any students undertaking observations that will form part of their PhD preparation.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is £15,000. This figure is based on the minimum award specified in the job description and the location of the opportunity. In addition to the salary, you will receive comprehensive benefits, including 100% of the full economic cost of your travel and subsistence expenses.
