Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at Royds Hall Academy. As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the teaching and learning of our students, particularly those with complex communication and interaction needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the teacher in delivering specific interventions to small groups of students, adapting provision to ensure engagement, progress, and attainment.
- Work within the framework set by the teacher to deliver a specific curriculum or aspect to one-to-one, small group, or whole-class students, promoting good behaviour and a purposeful learning environment.
- Lead Annual Reviews with specialist teacher support and contribute to Individual Support Plans to support teachers with differentiation.
- Promote the support and inclusion of all students in learning activities, communicating effectively to support their learning and maintaining high expectations of all students to achieve.
- Collaborate with specialist teachers in monitoring and evaluating student responses to learning tasks, modifying approaches accordingly.
- Monitor and evaluate student participation and progress through assessment activities, providing constructive support and feedback to students and reporting back to the teacher as specified.
- Lead and line-manage a team of educational teaching assistants, modelling best practice at all times.
- Contribute to maintaining and analysing students' records of progress, as specified within the teachers' framework.
- Organise and manage safely the learning activities, physical teaching space, and resources within the designated area of responsibility.
- Support the organisation of the day, including staff timetables and cover arrangements.
- Organise, design, and deliver lunchtime, before, and after-school activities for vulnerable pupils across the school.
- Plan, monitor, and evaluate students' learning, ensuring progress is clearly recorded in relevant systems and related to learning objectives/goals for students.
- Deliver appropriate interventions to maximise student progress.
- Develop positive relationships with parents/carers and work in collaboration to secure the best outcomes for students.
- Liaise with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to ensure the needs of all students are met.
- Work in collaboration with specialist teachers to deliver a robust transition process for new students and those moving onto college.
- Carry out outreach duties in school across Kirklees, directed by the Teacher in Charge.
- Ensure relevant equipment and materials are suitable for designated learning activities.
- Contribute effectively to research, selection, and preparation of teaching resources that meet the diversity of pupils' needs and interests.
- Support the class teacher with resourcing lessons as needed.
- Support classroom teachers with differentiation and planning for learners within the provision.
- Plan and deliver CPD sessions for staff.
Requirements:
- HLTA status or equivalent
- Experience of coaching and line-managing colleagues
- Experience of working with outside agencies in supporting students and families
- Ability to engage and influence others
- Excellent knowledge of best practice approaches to support those with complex communication and interaction needs
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent behaviour management skills
- Ability to form positive relationships with parents/carers
- Commitment to the safeguarding of young people
- Ability to monitor and evaluate impact of interventions and strategies through a graduated approach
- Working knowledge of relevant policies and codes of practice
- Ability to use ICT to support learning
- Ability to travel around the local area in an outreach capacity
