Opportunity at the University of Plymouth

We are seeking an experienced Senior Ocean Modeller/Software Developer to contribute to a major project delivering a new Ocean Forecasting Centre in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will be responsible for upgrading, recalibrating, and error correcting NEMO ocean models, as well as developing software products.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a fixed-term basis until October 31st due to funding with potential extension. We offer a competitive salary package (£54,000 - £64,000 per annum), generous pension, and holiday scheme.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of FORTRAN and Python code, experience in computer programming on LINUX-based systems, and parallel computing on an HPC cluster. Knowledge of NEMOVAR or similar data assimilation software is desirable.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing numerical models and techniques to solve scientific problems
  • Researching, interpreting, and analysing complex data using various systems
  • Creating technical documentation for software
  • Contributing to staff training, including skills development planning, delivery, and evaluation
