About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Nuclear Reactor Engineer - Design and Build to join our team at BAE Systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work on the design and build of reactor plants for submarines.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support the PNED Build Assurance Manager as required, providing technical expertise and guidance on nuclear safety engineering activities.
  • Lead the design and build of nuclear reactor plants for the Astute and Dreadnought programme, ensuring compliance with safety engineering techniques and guidelines.
  • Act as the intelligent customer for documentation, advice, and services related to the naval reactor plant and safety case.
  • Develop and implement sound technical solutions to issues arising during construction and commissioning of the naval reactor plant.
  • Author inputs to the Office of the Chief Engineer on the compliance of the "as built" naval reactor plant against design, build, and commissioning requirements.
  • Conduct nuclear safety assessments of the impact of changes to and deviations from the naval reactor plant design intent.
  • Liaise with internal and external customers to ensure their requirements are met and needs are considered.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a degree-level qualification in a relevant subject, such as engineering or physical science. They will have a strong understanding of reactor plant systems, design, build, commissioning, and operation, as well as experience in technical report writing.

Desirable:

Desirable skills and experience include engineering experience in design and build of systems, understanding of safety and quality, and ability to lead engineering investigations and constructively challenge others.
