About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Nuclear Safety Specialist to join our Site Safety team, responsible for producing nuclear safety cases covering Astute and Dreadnought build and commission. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development of deterministic nuclear safety assessments, authoring of nuclear safety cases, and ALARP assessments of new and legacy facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement deterministic nuclear safety assessments for build and commission of Dreadnought and future class submarines.
  • Author nuclear safety cases, incorporating results of deterministic and probabilistic analyses of submarine build and commission activities.
  • Conduct ALARP assessments of new and legacy facilities and equipment.
  • Define, agree, and implement safety case requirements.
  • Potential line management responsibilities for junior team members.
  • Manage internal and external interfaces with Engineering Authorities, Human Factors, regulatory bodies, and MOD.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Essential Skills

  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline (engineering or physical sciences).
  • Previous experience in safety analysis and safety case production for high-hazard industries.

Desirable Skills

  • Chartered engineer status or actively working towards it is desirable.
  • Previous experience working on the submarine programme or at a nuclear site.
  • Relevant nuclear and/or safety degree programmes from universities such as Heriot-Watt, Aberdeen, Cranfield, Strathclyde, Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham.

You will receive a competitive salary of £70,000-£90,000 per annum, depending on experience, along with benefits including a pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance, and a Company-contributed Share Incentive Plan.
