Scholarship in Genomics and Climate Adaptation

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD student to join our research team and investigate the genetic basis of climate adaptation in Drosophila melanogaster. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to design and conduct experiments using a combination of quantitative genetics, transcriptomics, and simulations in SLiM.

The project aims to answer four key questions:

  1. What is the role of dominance reversal between sex and temperature in facilitating climate adaptation?
  2. How does the genetic architecture of sex- / temperature-specific fitness contribute to climate adaptation?
  3. Can we identify specific genomic loci that mediate climate adaptation?

The PhD student will have the opportunity to develop their own research ideas and tailor their PhD experience to match their career ambitions. This scholarship provides a unique chance to work at the intersection of genetics, genomics, and computational biology.

This full-time PhD position comes with an estimated annual salary of $55,000 - $65,000, depending on qualifications and experience. The University of East Anglia offers a stimulating academic environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and access to a wide range of professional development opportunities.
