About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Mental Health Therapist to join our NHS Talking Therapies Team as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to work with adults experiencing common mental health issues, providing high-quality care and support in a busy and dynamic environment.
Job Responsibilities
- To assess and support individuals with common mental health problems, using evidence-based CBT interventions and other low-intensity therapies.
- To foster strong relationships with patients, their families, and carers, promoting self-recovery and empowerment.
- To provide information and support on pharmacological treatments, as well as computerised CBT and guided self-help.
- To educate and involve family members and others in treatment, as necessary.
- To work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including GPs, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- To maintain accurate and confidential records of patient activity, adhering to service protocols and data protection regulations.
- To engage in regular supervision, clinical meetings, and training sessions, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and skills in CBT and related areas.
- To participate in research and quality improvement initiatives within the mental health sector.
- To adhere to the employer's standards of practice, national guidelines, and local policies, prioritising patient safety and confidentiality.
- To contribute to the development of the team, sharing expertise and best practices in CBT and low-intensity interventions.
- To be responsible for own professional development, attending conferences, workshops, and maintaining a personal development plan.
- To ensure a positive regard for others, respecting individual autonomy and confidentiality, while upholding equality and diversity principles.
- To manage a high volume of clinical contacts, maintaining emotional resilience and prioritising own wellbeing.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A Certificate in Advance Practice in Mental Health Primary Care Pathway (APMHPC) or equivalent qualification.
- Experience working with adults experiencing common mental health issues, preferably in primary care services.
- Demonstrated proficiency in CBT and low-intensity interventions, with a strong understanding of IAPT and anxiety/depression presentation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with ability to work under pressure and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Able to develop and maintain facilitators and barriers to therapeutic relationships with patients, promoting positive outcomes and self-recovery.
- Maintaining current knowledge of CBT, low-intensity interventions, and mental health policy, with commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Valid DBS clearance and willingness to undertake enhanced checks.
- Familiarity with relevant software, databases, and electronic record systems, with basic IT skills and adaptability.
