Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join our team at Greater Manchester Mental Health Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for acting as a full-time AMHP, operating from the City-Wide AMHP Hub, and carrying out all AMHP duties, including triaging referrals.

Liaising with GPs and other key partner agencies, you will develop and maintain multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working. You will provide high-quality, comprehensive assessments for allocated Service Users, involving their views and input from Nearest Relatives, other relatives, service providers, and carers.

You will assess and arrange admissions to hospital under the Mental Health Act or other legislation, referring/signposting to alternative least restrictive alternatives when necessary.

This role involves taking referrals from across the city for Guardianship and Community Treatment Orders, as well as Breathing Space on a rota basis.

Your main contacts will be GMMH Practitioners, Team Managers, Senior Trust Managers, Manchester City Council Legal services, Police, Local Authority staff, independent sector organisations, Service Providers, service users, their relatives, and members of the public.

Main Responsibilities

  • To act as an AMHP within the scope of the Mental Health Act 1983 and Mental Capacity Act 2005, ensuring legislative requirements are met while upholding patients' rights.
  • Maintain own AMHP approval through training and regular supervision attendance.
  • Manage your working day in liaison with the AMHP Hub Manager, reducing additional hours worked and minimizing accrued TOIL.
  • Deputize for the AMHP Hub Manager and manage handover of work at the AMHP Hub, including accepting and triaging referrals.
  • Develop a working knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Care Act 2014 and Trust policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • AMHP Qualification
  • Significant experience as an AMHP
  • Professional Qualification (Social Worker, Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Psychologist)
  • Registration with the professional authority (Social Work England)

Desirable Criteria

  • Additional relevant qualification (e.g., Practice Educator, BIA)
