We are seeking an experienced Metallic Machinist (Turner) to join our Machine Shop at Williams Racing. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for producing complex components for our Formula One race cars and associated jigs and fixtures on our DMG Mori NLX Lathes.
Key Responsibilities- Component Production: Produce high-quality components in a timely manner to meet the demands of our Formula One team and external customers.
- Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness: Ensure components are produced in the most efficient and cost-effective way, while maintaining tight delivery deadlines and high standards of work.
- Collaboration and Communication: Communicate and collaborate with our Toolpath Programming team to solve problems and improve the quality and runtime of jobs.
- Best Practice and Continuous Improvement: Proactively liaise with fellow machinists and other areas of the business to establish and utilize best practices, and suggest ideas for improving production efficiency and effectiveness.
- Quality Control: Carry out inspections during the machining of first-off components, ensure that they meet the required standards, and maintain the same level of quality throughout the batch.
- Data Collection and Recording: Collect and accurately record relevant shop floor data using our Data Collection Software.
- Shift Handover and Communication: Ensure thorough and accurate communication with other shifts to maintain a smooth handover and minimize production downtime.
- Job Documentation: Clearly and accurately record all relevant information pertaining to the running of the job to ensure the smooth running of future demand.
- Continuous Improvement: Communicate ideas and suggestions for improving production efficiency and effectiveness to our Supervisor/Team Leader.
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Good level of knowledge in manufacturing metallic and non-metallic components from aircraft-grade materials and high-quality engineering plastics.
- Machining Experience: Strong knowledge of setting and operating Fanuc-controlled Lathes/Turn-Mill machine tools.
- Programming Skills: Ability to program manually and/or conversationally would be advantageous.
- Machine Operation: Ability to run multiple machines and plan ahead regularly required.
- Apprenticeship or Experience: Ideally possess a recognized apprenticeship or have gained relevant experience in a precision engineering environment.
- Machining Knowledge: Demonstrate a good depth of machining knowledge, both CNC and manual, in a low-volume, high-accuracy, fast-paced prototype environment.
- Attention to Detail: Take pride in work and be capable of working with a minimum of supervision, while displaying a 'can-do' attitude.
- Flexibility and Teamwork: A high degree of flexibility, self-motivation, team ethic, and initiative are critical for success in this role.
- Continuous Improvement: A strong work ethic and a positive approach to continuous improvement.
- Extended Hours: A willingness to work extended hours on occasion.
