Technical Director Opportunity

A rare and challenging opportunity has arisen to join a leading international Building Services Consultancy with a proven track record in low energy design. As the Technical Director, you will be taking a team management and leadership role in the development and design and coordination of engineering project services.

The Position
  • Carrying out cost and profit analysis on projects, including feasibility studies and preparation of project fee proposals
  • Working closely with clients and project teams to establish project requirements
  • Developing and specifying applications of controls, instruments, and operating systems for building engineering services purposes
  • Surveying, testing, and reporting on existing electrical/mechanical installations
  • Leading the monitoring of construction and installation on projects
  • Liaising with existing clients to establish long-term relationships and future upcoming projects
  • Liaising with future client prospects and general business development
  • Representing the company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams, and contractors
  • Carrying out engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required industry and legal standards
  • Supporting clients in tender and procurement of MEP contractors and MEP equipment
  • Leading the coordination of engineering services, together with hands-on delivery of concept and details designs
  • Mentoring and developing younger members of the engineering team
  • Producing technical white papers to promote the technical capabilities of the business
  • Surveys and due diligence reports of existing data centres
  • Presenting technical papers at industry events where the opportunity arises
The Person
  • BSc/BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • MCIBSE/MIEE or HND/HNC + appropriate experience or equivalent
  • Chartered Engineer status
  • Experience of data centre or other mission-critical projects would be a distinct advantage
  • Significant experience of specification design for a range of building types
  • Experience of managing projects abroad (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge and working application of key health and safety issues and legislation
  • Appreciation and working knowledge of contract and business law
  • Ability to use IT-based calculation and spreadsheet software
  • Good understanding of BS standards/UK regulations/codes
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Background in consulting or construction preferred
