Urban Design Group Leadership Position

The Urban Design Group is seeking a proactive Senior Manager to run the organisation on a day-to-day basis, manage a small team of part-time staff, help to organise and facilitate events, and work with us to deliver our charitable objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Draw up a new strategic plan and objectives for the Urban Design Group for the next 1-5 years, in collaboration with the Strategic Director, Chair, Executive Board, and Editorial Board.
  • Operationalise and ensure the timely delivery of this strategic plan and objectives, in line with agreed KPIs.
  • Manage and develop effective processes and systems for running the Urban Design Group and monitoring its activities.
  • Document and provide reports on the Urban Design Group's activities for internal and external monitoring, governance, and statutory requirements.
  • Draw up the annual budget for the Urban Design Group, in collaboration with the Strategic Director, Treasurer, Executive Board, and Trustees, and oversee day-to-day financial management.
  • Oversee the investment of the charity's reserves, in concert with the Treasurer, Executive, and Trustees.
  • Manage HR processes for the Urban Design Group, including working with the Strategic Director to devise a suitable staffing structure for delivery of the UDG's strategic aims, and line-manage staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee and facilitate the delivery of the Urban Design Group's annual programme of events across the UK, including conferences, seminars, tours, visits, webinars, and workshops.
  • Oversee and manage the Urban Design Group's various initiatives and projects, ensuring their effective delivery.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience working for a charity or business, with experience of managing a variety of operations for a small/medium-sized organisation, and some team leadership responsibilities.
  • A detailed knowledge of urban design is not essential, but an awareness of the built environment industry, plus an interest in promoting good placemaking, would be preferable.
  • Experience of growing a membership body would be an advantage.
