About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the National Trust's Bath Assembly Rooms project as a Chief Heritage Historian. The successful candidate will support the project team in developing a new exhibition and immersive visitor experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on the 18th century, focusing on the people, fashion, food, and furniture of the 1790s in and around Bath.
- Work closely with the curatorial team to develop narratives on various themes, including those who enjoyed the entertainments at the Bath Assembly Rooms and those whose work enabled the social and financial economy of the Rooms, Bath, and further afield.
- Provide robust research to support the creative team in developing immersive experiences.
- Collaborate with the team to unlock historical stories and relevance for internal and external audiences, relating heritage and collections to wider historical and contemporary understandings.
Requirements
- Interest or specialism in 18th and early-19th century periods, with relevant experience or a degree in a relevant area and post-graduate qualification.
- Experience of conducting research for interpretation within a heritage, arts, or similar environment, with a wide knowledge of research resources and techniques.
- Successful track record of writing up research for various uses by different people.
- Strong communication and planning skills, alongside the ability to work at pace and be decisive, prioritizing work and activity based on project needs.
- Advanced IT skills, using collections management databases and other specialist software.
