About the Role

We are seeking an experienced IoT Network Engineer to join our team at Octopus Energy. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the remote wired and wireless network connectivity for our IoT Gateways.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement network architecture for IoT Gateways, ensuring secure and reliable connectivity.
  • Standardize network configurations, hardware firmware updates, and monitoring strategies across the network estate.
  • Collaborate with the Kraken Cloud infrastructure team to troubleshoot Gateway connectivity issues and implement solutions.
  • Ensure network security and compliance meet industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Document and maintain network architecture designs, IP address schemas, and VLAN details.
  • Monitor network performance, data usage, and proactively identify potential issues.
  • Recommend and implement network upgrades, enhancements, and procurement of new technologies.
  • Collaborate with the Kraken Electrical Engineering team on networking strategies and attend customer meetings to support site-specific requirements.
Requirements
  • Commercial experience working with remote IoT/edge network hardware, architecture design, implementation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, and VPNs.
  • Experience with network security technologies and best practices, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and access control.
  • Flexible, problem-solving mindset. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A full driving license and willingness to travel throughout the UK to customer energy sites in urban and rural locations.
