We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our Microbiology team as an Assistant Laboratory Officer. This role involves supporting technical and clinical staff in processing samples from hospital and GP patients to aid in the detection and treatment of infectious diseases.

Main Responsibilities
  • Booking In Samples: Swiftly and accurately book test requests into the computer system (iLAB) and clear errors as they occur.
  • Responding to Enquiries: Respond to telephone enquiries within the area of work from staff in primary and secondary care, providing test results (subject to departmental telephone SOPs), advice on sample types required for a range of tests, and requests for add-on-tests and emergency requests.
  • Entering Test Results: Enter a range of test results into the Pathology computer system for authorisation by Biomedical Scientists.

This is a busy role that requires flexibility, good hand-eye coordination, effective communication skills, and a strong attention to detail. You will work closely with senior staff, Biomedical Scientists, and other support staff in all sections of the Microbiology Laboratory.

Person Specification
  • A proven knowledge of Health & Safety issues.
  • Demonstrable experience of high-speed and accurate data entry.
  • Excellent communication skills, being able to deal with staff and patients.

The salary for this role is estimated at £25,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
