About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant Cardiologist to join our team at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. As a key member of our Clinical Decisions Unit, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and leading a team of medical professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consultant-led cardiology services in the Clinical Decisions Unit, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
  • Develop and implement pathways for ambulatory care, admission avoidance, and streaming to appropriate services, improving patient outcomes and reducing hospital admissions.
  • Support the general cardiology service and be responsible for the care of patients within cardiology services across the trust, working closely with colleagues and other departments.
  • Supervise, teach, and train junior medical staff and medical students, promoting their professional development and ensuring they are equipped to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues on other sites within the trust to deliver an excellent service, sharing best practices and expertise to improve patient outcomes.
  • Undertake high-standard and timely managerial duties, including clinical administration, to support clinical care and ensure the smooth operation of the Clinical Decisions Unit.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development of new treatments and services that improve patient care.

Person Specification

We are looking for a Consultant Cardiologist who possesses the following skills and qualities:

  • MB BS or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC registration
  • Fully accredited for higher specialist training or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date
  • MRCP/MRCS or equivalent
  • Current BLS certification
  • Excellent clinical skills and experience in cardiology, with a subspecialty interest
  • Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems and make timely and good clinical decisions
  • Comfortable with complex issues such as multisystem disease and frailty
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors
  • Experience of leading teams and awareness of leadership styles
  • Ability to effectively organise, prioritise, and manage clinical workload
  • Understanding of wider health agenda and modern NHS
  • Ability to work to overcome barriers to change (negotiating, influencing, and persuasion skills)
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance issues
