London Borough of Tower Hamlets is seeking a Planning Law Senior Specialist to join our team. As a seasoned legal professional, you will be responsible for handling complex caseloads related to the Council's planning functions, providing high-quality legal advice and solutions.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will have a strong foundation in relevant legislation, local government decision-making processes, and legal standards including Lexcel. You will be expected to coordinate day-to-day team activities, prioritize tasks, and cover for others when required.

About the Role
  • Act as a senior lawyer handling a varied and complex caseload related to the Council's planning functions, providing high-quality legal advice and solutions.
  • Coordinate day-to-day team activities, ensure work prioritization, and cover for others when required.
  • Contribute to team development and training for council officers and Members, ensuring quality legal service delivery.
  • Prepare legal documents, represent Legal Services at various meetings, and manage effective resource use within the team.
  • Ensure compliance with legal precedents, the Council's Constitution, and performance monitoring systems.
  • Work evenings and weekends as necessary, attending Court, Tribunals, and statutory panels to represent and defend cases.
Requirements
  • Possess high-level advocacy skills and experience in managing and developing staff.
  • Have a strong foundation in relevant legislation, local government decision-making processes, and legal standards including Lexcel.
  • Exhibit high levels of analytical, verbal, and numeric reasoning skills.

What We Offer
  • A competitive salary of £65,000 - £75,000 per annum.
