Specialist Instructional Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Specialist Instructional Officer to join our team at the Defence College of Technical Training (DCTT). As a key member of our instructional team, you will play a vital role in developing and delivering training programs to transform RAF personnel into competent and inspired mechanical technicians.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality training and lessons to military students.
- Produce lesson plans and supporting course materials to support student-centric learning in accordance with JSP 822.
- Participate in internal and external evaluation audits as required.
- Ensure that students meet required standards of conduct, punctuality, discipline, and dress.
- Integrate Literacy and Numeracy into lessons.
- Ensure students receive a safety brief on their training environment and observe relevant fire, health, and safety precautions.
- Contribute to the Continuous Improvement of the School and its outputs.
- Prepare training areas and resources to ensure a safe and acceptable condition.
- Complete mandatory course documentation within 5 working days.
- Undertake a minimum of 5 hours Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per annum.
- Ensure compliance with personal responsibilities to students with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD).
- Undertake additional lessons for trainees, either as Additional Trade Training (ATT) or Extra Trade Training (ETT).
- Act as a Role Model and maintain the highest standards of behaviour.
- Monitor student welfare and manage concerns through the chain of command.
- Remain current in Instructional Techniques (IT) and arrange for IT and lesson Content Monitoring (CM) observations.
- Ensure concessions or specialist requirements are carried out when acting as an examination invigilator.
- Assist the Examinations Manager to review examination questions.
The ideal candidate will be a great communicator with the ability to effectively describe complicated ideas to different audiences. You must be well-organised, proficient in time management, and have good public speaking skills. Experience in a military engineering environment is desirable, as is familiarity with mechanical engineering management practices and trade policy.
