About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operating Department Practitioner to join our theatre team at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of excellent surgical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patient care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care.
  • Ensure that agreed standards of practice within the area are maintained.
  • Maintain personal contact with patients, other healthcare disciplines, relatives, and visitors.
  • Commit to providing training and sharing knowledge to those around in the team and mentorship support of new staff and student nurses.
  • Undertake appropriate enhanced roles, following the necessary training, including IV drug administration, ECG recording, and Advanced Scrub Practitioner (ASP) Role.
  • Ensure safe custody and administration of drugs, in accordance with Trust Policy.
  • Ensure that patients can be safely admitted, discharged, or transferred from theatre and/or recovery.
  • Responsible for the management and coordination of theatre activities in the absence of more senior staff.

Person Specification

  • Registered ODP HCPC.
  • Preparation for mentorship course or equivalent.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
  • Previous NHS experience within the last 12 months.
  • Broad clinical knowledge base.
  • Recent and/or current post-registration experience in an acute Trust.
