About Your New Role

At Weightmans, our Property Litigation team provides expert advice and support to public and private sector landlords, tenants, and real estate developers. Our client base includes local authorities, NHS Trusts, housing associations, social landlords, blue chip retailers, and owner-managed businesses.

We utilize bespoke case management systems to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion of documents and court procedures. As a Paralegal in Property Litigation, you will assist case handlers in their matters, particularly with housing disrepair and gas/electrical access work. You may also assist with other property litigation, including routine lease renewals, property disputes, and housing matters.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Lexcel and internal procedures.
  • Assist with and oversee money laundering checks on all new matters, subject to supervision.
  • Support case handlers on housing disrepair and other cases.
  • Run your own caseload on property litigation and housing matters in due course.
  • Interact with clients and third parties, requiring excellent communication skills.
  • Prepare and copy trial and hearing bundles.
  • Prepare and copy enclosure for papers to counsel and court (or agents).
  • Photocopying/electronic bundling for case handlers and secretaries.
  • File management duties, indexing, and collating large case papers; maintain client details and information on physical files and case management systems.
  • Attend minor applications at court (in chambers).
  • Closing and archiving files.
  • Assist with client reporting.
  • Establish and maintain precedent files for the team.
  • Perform other administrative and fee-earning duties as required.
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans' values and relevant policies and procedures.

About You

We are seeking a Paralegal with previous experience in property litigation and a genuine interest in the area. You should have a flexible approach to work and be able to adapt to different tasks. Required skills include:

  • Previous paralegal experience, preferably in property litigation.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and concentration.
  • Excellent collaborative and team working skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and targets.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Flexible approach.
