Job Description

Job Title: Human Factors Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Human Factors Engineer to join our team. As a Human Factors Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our products are safe, usable, and effective.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Human Factors Integration: Conduct Human Factors Integration through the development lifecycle, providing progressive assurance to the customer as per Def Stan.
  2. User Interface Design: Develop User Interface prototypes and conduct Human Centred Design.
  3. Operator Analysis: Analyze and assess the role of the operator within the weapon system, considering weapon system planning, command and control.
  4. Requirements Definition: Define HF requirements and develop and maintain lower level detailed specifications (e.g. for HMI/HCI).
  5. User Experiments: Conduct User Experiments and Trials supporting system conception, development and verification, taking into account operator workload and situational awareness.
  6. Ergonomics Analysis: Analyze physical ergonomics, equipment and integration into workspaces.

Requirements:

  1. Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) Membership: Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF).
  2. User Interface Design Tools: User Interface design & use of User Interface prototyping tools such as Axure.
  3. Human Centred Design: Implementing Human Centred Design processes.
  4. Human Factors Integration: Application of Human Factors Integration & Human Factors Engineering in a Defence context.
  5. Defence Standards: Knowledge of defence standards.
  6. Core HF Activities: Conduct of core HF activities including task analysis, requirements development, user trials and Experimentation.
  7. Physical Ergonomics: Application of physical ergonomics and use of CAD software such as Jack or RAMSIS.
  8. Systems Engineering: Good understanding of Systems Engineering and disciplines that interact with Human Factors (Supportability, Training, Systems) including definition and verification of HF requirements.
  9. Software Skills: MS Office, DOORS.
  10. Communication Skills: Ability to generate technical reports.
  11. Planning Skills: Good planning skills.
  12. Customer Focus: Customer focused.
  13. Communication Skills: Effective communication skills.
