Our client plays a pivotal role in the UK rail industry, providing innovative off-track solutions and civil engineering services in partnership with major contractors.
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Environmental Conservation Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our ecology department, you will play a crucial role in supporting our growth and delivering exceptional results.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide expert guidance, training, and support in ecological conservation practices.
- Establish and manage ecology resources within the company.
- Develop and implement ecological management strategies, plans, and budget costs alongside our Environmental Manager.
- Stay up-to-date with current wildlife legislations and advise on habitat management requirements.
- Review reports produced by colleagues and provide constructive feedback and training.
- Lead ecological surveying and logistics planning at various sites.
- Provide training and support for protected species surveys and reports.
- Design, train, and support colleagues in protected species/habitat mitigation measures.
- Maintain and develop our Environmental Management System.
- Mentor junior ecologists and support their professional development.
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced candidate with a postgraduate degree or diploma in environment/ecology-related subject. You must be a full member or qualifying for the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). Excellent report-writing skills and significant experience in producing reports are essential.
You will have extensive experience in managing own ecological projects from conception to completion, including working on complex sites with multiple protected species/habitats. Detailed knowledge of current wildlife legislation and UK policy is required. Holding at least two protected species survey class licenses, including dormice and bats/GCN, is preferred.
A full UK driving license and Class 2 survey license for bats or working towards are necessary. Experience of working in the rail industry and infrastructure projects is desirable. You must be flexible in your approach to work and willing to travel across the southern region.
