About the Role


University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust is seeking a Radiation Protection Specialist to join our Medical Physics Department. This Band 7 role will support all aspects of our work, including ionising radiation protection, optical radiation protection, electromagnetic fields, and Radiology physics support.



Responsibilities


The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the safety requirements of personal protective equipment, carrying out X-ray and UV equipment performance testing, working with clinical staff on X-ray optimisation projects, leading X-ray equipment performance testing, training staff groups in radiation safety, and auditing compliance with regulations such as IRR, CAORWR, IRMER, and EPR.



Requirements


To be successful in this role, you will need a good honours degree in a relevant subject, HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist, and relevant MSc or equivalent. You must also have experience of operating X-ray and laser equipment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to use initiative to resolve problems. A PhD in a Physics-related subject and experience of working with quality management systems are desirable.
