Job Summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Medical Radiation Physicist to join our Radiation Protection Group. This Band 7 Clinical Scientist role offers a unique opportunity to support the Trust and external clients in ionising and non-ionising radiation protection, diagnostic radiology physics, and research activities.

About the Role

This challenging position requires a logical thinker with exceptional problem-solving skills, ability to set objectives, and expertise in using software applications (including MS Office). The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, enabling them to present complex data to various audiences effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support all aspects of radiation protection, including ionising and optical radiation safety
  • Assess safety requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Conduct UV or X-ray equipment performance testing
  • Work with clinical staff on X-ray optimisation projects
  • Train staff groups in radiation safety
  • Audit safety compliance with IRR, CAORWR, IRMER, and EPR regulations
Desirable Qualifications
  • PhD in Physics-related subject
  • Experience with quality management systems
  • Presentation of scientific papers at professional meetings
  • Publication of scientific reports
