Radiation Protection Specialist - Nuclear Energy Industry

We are seeking an experienced Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at Westinghouse Electric Company LLC. As a Radiation Protection Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and implementing radiation protection strategies and programs to ensure the safe operation of our nuclear facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Radiation Protection in the development of a comprehensive radiation monitoring strategy.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for health physics monitors.
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions to enhance practical skills in radiation detection and monitoring.
  • Provide guidance and support to health physics monitors to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with site management to identify training needs and develop tailored programs to address specific requirements.
  • Stay current with industry regulations and best practices to ensure training materials are up-to-date.
  • Advise on instrument qualification, selection, and suitability for routine surveillance and waste sentencing.

Requirements:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Health Physics Monitoring (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working as a Health Physics Surveyor/Monitor
  • Ability to obtain SC level security clearance
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of instrumentation for nuclear operations, including waste disposal and recycling
  • Experience in carrying out functional tests of radiation protection monitoring instrumentation using calibrated radioactive sealed sources
  • Working knowledge of common Microsoft Office programs, including cloud-based systems
  • Train-the-trainer certification or teaching experience in a related field (beneficial but not required)
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Site Licence conditions

Estimated Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 per annum, depending on experience.
