Philanthropy Officer

Job Summary:

Virginia State University's Office of Institutional Advancement seeks a highly skilled Philanthropy Officer to build enduring relationships between the university, public sector, and community organizations. This role will maintain stewardship contacts with individual, corporate, and foundation donors, adhering to the highest ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a highly effective development and donor services program.
• Work collaboratively with the Vice President and staff to support and embrace the mission and goals of Virginia State University.
• Identify and understand the needs and interests of individual, corporate, and foundation donors to develop relationships between them and VSU.
• Research and identify individual, corporate, and foundation donors (10K+).
• Work in a fast-paced, flexible, collegial, goal-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment.
• Possess a high degree of integrity, initiative, and professionalism as well as sound judgment.
• Self-starter with a resourceful and entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to act decisively.
• Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours, including some weekends and evenings, and to travel on occasion.
• Experience in higher education.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Ability to identify and understand the needs and interests of individual, corporate, and foundation donors in order to develop relationships between them and VSU.
• Ability to research and identify individual, corporate, and foundation donors (10K+).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).
• Minimum of four (4) years of demonstrated progressive success in individual, corporate, and foundation donors ($10K +) fundraising.
• Fundraising experience at a Historical Black College and University (HBCU) preferred.
