About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team at Gooch & Housego. As a key member of our design and development team, you will be responsible for the electronics and firmware design of products from concept through to production, taking into account requirements, timescales, cost, and regulatory constraints.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Design and Development: Design and develop digital and analogue electronics and firmware for products from concept through to production.
  2. System Architectural Design: Develop system architectural designs and concepts to meet product requirements.
  3. Schematic and Board Layout: Create schematics and board layouts using Altium Designer CAD tool.
  4. Prototype Build and Test: Build, test, and fault-find prototypes to ensure product quality and reliability.
  5. Specification and Requirements Capture: Capture and document product specifications and requirements.
  6. Hands-on Soldering and Fault Finding: Perform hands-on soldering and fault-finding tasks to resolve product issues.
  7. EMC and Electrical Safety Compliance: Support EMC and electrical safety compliance efforts to ensure product safety and regulatory compliance.
  8. Cost Model Generation and Analysis: Generate and analyze cost models to optimize product costs.
  9. Team Leadership: Provide oversight and guidance to junior engineers as needed.
Requirements:
  • Embedded Programming Experience: Experience with embedded programming languages such as 'C', FPGA VHDL.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in C++,.net, C#, Java, Python, or algorithm development an advantage.
  • CAD Skills: Familiarity with CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout, with Altium Designer preferred.
  • EMC Compliance: Knowledge of EMC compliance design techniques and safety and EMC standards advantageous.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and concise report writing with good attention to detail.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information effectively.
  • Microsoft Office: Competency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth and development of the R&D department.
