Job Title: Substation Electrical Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Substation Electrical Engineer to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a key member of our Transmission & Distribution Global Practice, you will be responsible for producing design engineering deliverables for substation projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead on project technical solution development, unaided and when appropriate.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to produce specific sub-packages of detailed engineering deliverables.
  • Support the Substations Section Manager in growing and enhancing the Substations Section engineering capability in the UK business.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers within the engineering team, particularly those in the Substations Section.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an electrical-based (or closely related) engineering discipline, from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of substation engineering design experience in the electricity transmission & distribution sector.
  • Membership in a relevant professional Engineering Institution (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH Cert./NVQ Level 3 in H&S-related subject).
  • Professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council.
  • Substation safety and access training (e.g. NSI 30, BESC: AIM, etc.).
  • Formal training in CDM 2015, Construction Safety, and Impressed Voltages.
  • Knowledge of engineering design management best practices with the ability to implement this knowledge.
  • Understanding of the requirements of relevant UK Environmental and Waste Management legislation.
  • IT literate, with good knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of applying CAD technology/software to substation and P&C design and understanding of BIM principles (PAS 1192 and ISO 16950).
