About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Microbiologist to join our team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, where you will have the chance to contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert diagnostic opinion on microbial diseases, working closely with clinicians and laboratory staff to ensure accurate and timely results. You will also be involved in the provision of educational activities, including teaching and training of medical and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance of high-quality patient-centred care through effective leadership and management of the service
  • Shared responsibility for day-to-day management of the service, including strategic planning and decision-making
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service, promoting excellence in clinical practice
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Participation in continuing medical education, staying up-to-date with the latest developments in microbiology and laboratory medicine
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of receiving Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification in medical microbiology or virology
  • Demonstrable experience in laboratory diagnosis of infections and their treatment, with evidence of engagement in research and publication of papers in peer-reviewed journals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
