Job Details

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Microbiologist to join our team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice on microbial diseases to clinicians and patients.
  • Lead the laboratory service, ensuring high-quality patient care.
  • Collaborate with senior Biomedical staff to review investigative repertoire and methodology.
  • Medical reporting and interpretation of results, with a focus on patient management.
About the Role

This is a substantive post based at Lister Hospital, Stevenage. The post consists of 11 programmed activities (PAs), with opportunities for part-time and job-share applicants.

We offer a comprehensive range of services for our resident population of approximately 500,000. Our team of 4 Consultants provides a dynamic and consultative link between clinicians, patients, and the laboratory service.

The role includes:

  • Maintenance of high-quality patient-centred care.
  • Shared responsibility for day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning.
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service.
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity.

Person Specification
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register.
  • FRCPath or equivalent.
  • Evidence of being up to date and fit to practice safely, and aware of own training needs.
