The Investment Team in the Trade Policy, Implementation, and Negotiations DG Group develops UK policy on international investment treaties. This role sits in the multilateral branch, focusing on work across the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), World Trade Organisation (WTO), and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

This role offers a unique chance to work in a fast-paced environment with significant ministerial, cross-Whitehall, and international exposure. You will collaborate with various teams, including those within the Department and external stakeholders.

As a Policy Adviser, you will support the development of robust policy, drawing upon information from different sources to reach defensible conclusions and prepare briefings. You may represent the UK internationally, contributing to negotiations and ensuring positive outcomes.

The Investment Team values diversity and recognises the importance of professional and personal growth. With the Department's learning and development offer, you will have the opportunity to build your trade expertise.

In normal circumstances, willingness to travel overseas is a requirement of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support negotiations and policy development in multilateral organisations.
  • Contribute to strategies for multilateral negotiations, working closely with other teams.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across HMG to facilitate collaboration in policy development.
  • Support engagement with key stakeholders, ensuring insights feed into UK trade policy and negotiations.
  • Produce briefing for ministers and senior officials.
