Payroll Officer

Portfolio Payroll is seeking a skilled Payroll Officer to join our team on a temporary basis. As a Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for providing an effective and accurate payroll service to our stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Payroll Processing: Run end-to-end payroll processes for all organizations, ensuring payroll records and controls are maintained.
- Payroll Management: Manage and carry out day-to-day processes for the provision of an effective, timely, and accurate payroll service for a portfolio of organizations, in accordance with their HR policies, service standards, and performance requirements.
- Email Management: Effectively maintain group email inboxes.
- Enquiry Management: Respond to and deal with external and internal enquiries relating to the payroll service, as appropriate.
- Deduction Management: Ensure other deductions from salaries are made in accordance with employee and other instructions.
- Compliance: Ensure deductions from salaries are made as required and comply with the organization's financial regulations and requirements of HMRC for taxation and NI, and Essex Pension Fund for pensions.
- Resilience: Provide resilience across the service for cover when required.
- Payroll Experience: Experience of payroll processing.
- Qualifications: Recognized payroll qualification and evidence of continuing professional development (desirable).
- Multiple Payrolls: Experience of working on multiple payrolls, working towards multiple deadlines (desirable).
- HMRC Knowledge: Up-to-date knowledge and experience of HMRC requirements (for Tax, NI, SMP, SSP, RTI reporting etc.).
- IT Skills: Aptitude for using and developing IT to better support and operate the payroll function.
- Communication Skills: Excellent numeracy and literacy skills, ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
- Teamwork: Ability to work in a small team without supervision.
- Flexibility: Flexible approach to duties and hours.
- Time Management: Excellent timekeeping and organization skills.
