Job Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced SEND specialist support assistant to join our team at Protocol Education. As a dedicated specialist support assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in a specialist school setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support students with SEND, ensuring their safety and ability to access learning activities and understand the information presented.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to aid the execution of education plans suitable to each pupil's learning objectives.
  • Build trusting relationships with students and communicate effectively according to their understanding.
  • Promote class interaction and ensure students engage throughout lessons.
  • Create an inclusive and stimulating environment for students.
  • Assist students with practical activities using a variety of teaching aids.
  • Support students' physical, social, and emotional welfare.

Requirements
  • A general understanding of the national curriculum and foundation stage framework.
  • Flexibility to work in a range of classes with students of varying ages and needs.
  • An interest and motivation in working with students with special needs and developing skills to facilitate this.
  • Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
  • Calm, controlled, and effective communication and a rapport with students and adults within the school.
  • Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within this.
  • A high level of professionalism and the ability to maintain personal and professional boundaries in school-related relationships.
  • Level 2 (GCSE) qualifications in English and Maths, or the ability to demonstrate a high level of competence in literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to use specialist IT software and other resources to support students' learning and communication.
  • Commitment to developing a full working knowledge of relevant school policies, practices, and procedures.

Working Arrangements
This is a long-term, full-time position, and we are looking for candidates who are available to work 5 days a week between 8:30am and 3:30pm. If you have a passion for supporting students with special needs, please apply now.
