Import Customs Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Import Customs Clerk to join our team at Red Recruit, a leading recruitment agency specializing in freight and shipping.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate documentation checks to ensure compliance with new and existing government legislation, monitoring arrivals, and preparing documentation for entry submission.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing effective relationships with the operational team and maintaining communication with customers on customs issues.
- Providing accurate documentation checks to ensure compliance with government legislation.
- Monitoring arrivals and preparing documentation for entry submission.
- Submitting import declarations via ASM Sequoia.
- Monitoring declarations subject to HMRC checks, port health, examination, documentation checks, and liaising with relevant government departments to ensure timely release.
- Submitting post-entry amendments where applicable and maintaining a team post-entry amendment log.
- Supporting and contributing to branch P&L monthly reporting.
Requirements:
- Recent experience working in a customs brokerage environment, including entry submission to CDS via ASM or similar customs software providers.
- Knowledge of the HMRC Tariff for a diverse range of product types.
- Understanding of various customs procedures.
- Ability to adapt to arrivals encompassing various transport modes.
- Experience using port community systems CNS & Destin8.
- Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work with line managers on HMRC ad hoc requirements, procedures, audits, etc.
- Computer literacy and knowledge of MS Office.
We are looking for a candidate with 2+ years of customs entry experience who is willing to work in a fast-paced environment and be keen to learn in a new and expansive area of customs brokerage.
