About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical and Electrical Fitter to join our team at National Grid. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting the largest overhaul of the UK electricity grid in generations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Installation of new equipment and refurbishment of existing equipment on Substation plant and equipment
  • Fault investigation and repair, as well as routine condition monitoring in line with commercial targets
  • Working on complex 275kV or 400kV circuit breakers, transformers, high speed on load tap changers and cable systems
Requirements
  • A minimum Level 2/3 recognised apprenticeship in electrical or mechanical engineering, or an NVQ/Level 3 electrical or mechanical qualification with relevant fitting experience
  • Good all-round engineering skills, including Working to Safety Procedures, Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Fitting, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Working at Height, Lifting Operations, Panel Wiring, and Fault Finding
  • A Full UK Driving Licence
What We Offer
  • A competitive starting salary of £36,774 pa, plus £1,794 pa Seasonal Working Allowance, totaling £38,568 pa
  • A London Allowance of £10,000 pa (for teams inside the M25) or £4,500 pa (for North Kent and West Anglia teams)

  • 37 hours Mon – Fri, with weekends off
  • 26 days holiday plus 8 statutory days
