Job Description

Job Title: Gypsy Roma Traveller Outreach Worker

Job Purpose: To provide outreach support to Gypsy Roma Traveller families and children, promoting their well-being and addressing their specific needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Gypsy Roma Traveller families and children, understanding their cultural and social context.
  • Provide intensive support to families, addressing issues such as poverty, school attendance, health concerns, and parenting.
  • Work in partnership with allocated social workers, other agencies, and community groups to deliver services and support.
  • Engage with parents/carers, promoting their involvement in their children's lives and supporting them to access services and benefits.
  • Deliver workshops and training sessions to add value to the work with Gypsy Roma Traveller children and families.
  • Disseminate good practice in community-based childcare and support students or visitors from a range of agencies.
  • Lead on Safeguarding and promotion of the wellbeing of children, providing professional support to parents and workers from other agencies.
  • Advocate on behalf of parents/carers to support their access to health and benefit advice.
  • Manage the delivery of Early Help and ensure that this is embedded in their everyday practice.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in childcare, health, education, social care, or adult learning support.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents/carers, and partners working in partnership at all times.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by the Gypsy Roma Traveller community and the ability to work in an anti-oppressive manner.
  • Ability to work flexibly across different work locations and areas as appropriate.
  • Relevant IT skills.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in managing staff and students.
  • Experience of speaking to large audiences.
  • Experience of working with Gypsy Roma Traveller Communities.
  • Experience in leading staff training.
